Mustangs Boys Soccer defeat Osseo 2-1 in First Round of District Playoffs
(Osseo 10/10)—The Mounds View Boys Soccer club scored two early goals by Elijah Paulin to defeat the Osseo Orioles 2 to 1 in the first round of the district 5AA tournament. Senior Goalkeeper Jason Min made several big saves in goal to lead the Mustangs to victory.
The Mustangs came out strong and played an excellent first half. Elijah Paulin scored at the 8 minute mark set up by good passes from Till Konczak and Ethan Von Grey. Thomas Limborg stole the ball from the Orioles and made a beautiful forty yard run eluding several defenders. The senior captain then cleanly crossed the ball to Elijah Paulin who fired the ball past the goalkeeper for a 2 to 0 lead at the 11 minute mark.
The Osseo Orioles came out very aggressively in the second half. Osseo used their speed to gather up a through ball and score at the 3 minute mark of the second half to narrow the score 2 to 1. Each club had several chances the second half but failed to connect on a goal. The Orioles had three consecutive corners late in the half which added drama to a tight game. The Mustang defense held strong and won 2 to 1 road contest.
The Mustangs play the Roseville Raiders on Thursday night at 7p at Roseville Area High School. The Raiders defeated Centennial 1-0 on penalty kicks in their first round match-up.
